Cad file size or points limit
Posted by: Mick - 12-04-2019, 08:49 AM - Replies (2)

Hi there,
I was wondering if you can help with my query, I tried to upload contour from dwg file and got a message that there are too many points and suggestion box to reduce the tolerance. I couldn't find help on this topic to best approach this ie I tried to delete some of the contour lines that are not needed and purge the dwg file to reduce the size but still getting the too many points and the process will be slow message. And with reduction method not sure how much is it optimal size without losing too much tolerance.

  Re-Calculation Button/Toggle
Posted by: nollej - 11-26-2019, 12:54 PM - Replies (1)

Hello Team,
Firstly, thanks for your software, it is really helpful and easy to use.

Working with the latest version today I thought that it may be useful if there was an option to disable/toggle the automatic recalculation of cut/fill in the case where a boundary line/point is adjusted of existing earthwork elements.

Especially when using a model which has many points/contours, it makes moving specific points and shapes hard to smoothly move as the program seems to constantly want to update the calculation after every move. Having a toggle on/off button could be useful to allow any modifications to shapes/points to be made and then only when the movement of objects is complete the calculation could be toggled back on. This way the software can let the user make any adjustments and only start calculating when the edits are complete, the same way in which it waits to start the calculation when creating a new earthworks element.

Thanks again for your great software

Cheers
Josh

Star Panning across model when in 3D view
Posted by: RyanHolland - 11-13-2019, 11:32 AM - Replies (1)

Hi,
It would be useful to be able to pan across the model when in 3D view, rather than just being able to rotate around a fixed point.

Could use the same set up as Sketchup, which involves holding left button on mouse, whilst also pressing down on scroll wheel?

Thanks

CROSS SECTIONS | Kubla Cubed 2019 XS Released (V5.9)
Posted by: Ted Woods - 10-23-2019, 02:40 PM - Replies (1)

We are excited to announce the launch of a new update : Kuba Cubed 2019 XS (V5.9). The XS stands for x-sections or cross sections, one of the most hotly anticipated features on the Kubla Cubed road-map.  The good news for professional users of Kubla Cubed 2019 is that it comes at no additional cost.  Update to V5.9 and the cross section element will appear as a new option in the Measurement panel.

The XS Edition has many more improvements as well as the new cross sections feature.  We have also been working hard on increasing stability and improving the quality of the exports.  We have now introduced the ability to export PDF and CAD drawings with carefully designed layouts to impress clients and increase understanding of the calculations among project stake holders.

The first image is Kubla Cubed's own cross section visualiser and the lower one is the cross section data exported to Excel and used to create a scatter graph.

The full list of new features and improvements can be found below and in the Update Log that can be accessed via the Help menu in the program:

16:00 23/10/2019 - Kubla Cubed Version 5.9
___________________________________________

New Features

+ Added support for generating cross sections.  Sections can be viewed within the software, or exported to CAD, PDF or spreadsheets.

+ Added drawings layout to export.  Both CAD and PDF are supported.

Improvements

+ Better handling of errors in non-critical parts of the software (e.g. display of incline lines for slopes).

+ Added warning message when clearing white transparency from site plan.  This was a common cause of confusion by users.

+ Prevented user from adding phases in Presentation Mode.

+ Added ability to sync cameras between phases.

Fixes

+ Resolved calculation errors when intersecting with vertical slopes.

+ Fixed crash when using shift and number keys in numeric updown.

+ Fixed PDF errors when processing multiple very large PDF files.  Improved allocation of RAM to Java and reduced the size of cached rendered PDFs.

+ Fixed bug in position of input points when exported to CAD.

+ Fixed crash when loading files with Turkish culture set.

+ Fixed crash when pasting table data into take-off form.

+ Fixed crash when loading site plan with FIPs group policy.

+ Resolved calculation error caused when adding internal outlines to faces.

+ Resolved error when importing DXF - "parameter cannot be null"

+ Resolve error in export to CAD.

+ Resolved bug which caused the phases tabs arrow to not appear on first launch, when you have multiple phases which are wider than the screen.

+ Fixed a number of calculation errors related to ground level outlines running over vertical faces.

+ Fixed bugs which caused an error when exporting earthworks by element.

+ General improvements to calculation stability.

+ Fixed a number of bugs when importing surface elements from a CAD file.

+ Fixed a bug which causes a error message to appear saying the site plan was very large when it wasn't.

+ Fixed clash between stats panel and colour keys which could occur with small screen sizes.

+ Fixed a crash that could occur in the shading form.  This was due to a DisconnectedItem being passed to the converter due to a bug in Microsoft .NET Framework.

  Import of dxf file slow/hanging
Posted by: JimT - 10-17-2019, 02:47 PM - Replies (5)

I exported a dxf from AutoCad 2007.  It seems to have imported the second time I tried.  The units pull down does not ever respond so I can change from inches to feet.  The layers box sometimes shows up but seldom responds to inputs.

The Load Contours box finally showed all of my data after 5 or 10 minutes.  But now when I click on layers I get a beep that the program is hung or busy.
Is this something that takes hours to import?  The file is not that big compared to major construction projects.

A dialog popped under the contour dialog.

  Autosave option?
Posted by: CalifDreaming - 10-13-2019, 10:34 AM - Replies (3)

Just spent a few hours finishing up my first takeoff and the program crapped out and closed, losing everything I'd done for the last few hours since I manually saved something.  Is there an autosave function I've missed?  And if not, why isn't their one so the crashes don't destroy hours of work?

Also, my mouse can't manipulate the screen - always have to use the keyboard or onscreen arrows.  Anything I'm missing to get the mouse to activate the screen by dragging like it does with other programs? Tutorials all show the mouse working properly. First time I've ever encountered my mouse not working as it should.

  Importing CAD Data
Posted by: KevinD - 08-13-2019, 07:27 PM - Replies (1)

I understand how to import CAD data. The problem I have, however, is that I'm trying to import CAD data into an existing project that was already established using points from a pdf.

What has happened is the overall site has been surveyed in 2 phases. The information for Phase 1 was issued as a PDF and I've manually inserted all of the elevation points and boundaries. It's important to note that these features have 'default x and y co-ordinates because the 'actual' x and y co-ordinates are not available from the pdf.

I now want to import the Phase 2 points and boundaries, but as these features come from a dwf file they are imported with 'actual' x and y co-ordinates as part of their geometry that do not match the 'default' co-ordinates from the PDF.

I've watched the video and read the help files but I cannot find any help that will allow me to adjust a base x and y co-ordinate of the features I'm trying to import from the dwf drawings to match the points established from the pdf.

Can this be done and if so how?

Smile Introduce yourself. Who is from where?

Most forums I meander have a "say hello" section for new members.

I signed up for a Kubla license a week or so ago and since I am now 'the new guy', thought it best to say hello.

Perhaps also find people in my area who use Kubla.....

I am from South Africa and now live in Perth, Australia.
Use to draw pretty houses for a living, then moved countries and did earthwork estimation for a couple of years. Now have a small metal fabrication business and again do earthwork estimation on the side after hours.

Road Box Out - How to?
Posted by: Bushman - 08-05-2019, 09:20 AM - Replies (1)

Good afternoon.

Would anyone be able to assist with how to box out the proposed road pavements please?

I was given a natural & design TIN file and a PDF showing the face of kerbs of the roads.

I can trace the face of kerbs using the 'strip' function, but how do I offset this line 600mm to the outside of the road which represents the extent of the base and subbase layers below?

I will try and upload a section sketch.

I cant seem to post a photo from my phone. I will keep trying.

  Separating fill areas
Posted by: Michsitework - 07-21-2019, 11:15 PM - Replies (1)

Hi,
I am new to the program, just working through my first take off. I am wondering how to go about figuring out a cut/ fill volume for only greenspace. The issue is the on site soil is unsuitable to be used for any areas other than greenspace. I would like to break down the greenspace balancing to use these soils to fill where needed. Basically, I would need to calculate the difference for all the greenspace from the existing elevations to proposed, I'm just not sure how best to do it.
Thanks
