Can Kubla reveal if there will be an updated Kubla Cubed 2018 coming soon and if so, what might the new features be?

Hi Marcus

Short answer is Yes.  We have been a bit delayed with one of our other products but that has about 2 days of testing left.  After that we will be focusing a lot more on Kubla Cubed development.

The last major update of Kubla Cubed 2017 is V4.6 which is in progress and due for launch April the 9th 2018.

Version 4.6 is actually quite a big release and includes :

  1. LandXML import and export (allowing Autodesk Civil3D direct import of solids)
  2. Generation of labelled Gridded Points in CAD (A variety of use case such as importing surface into Revit).
  3. Vertical Exaggeration (Helps viewing detail in terrain that has marginal changes in elevation.
  4. Significant performance improvements especially with multiple phase projects.
  5. Contour labelling for generated contours.
  6. An export report of "User Input Data" (Allows users to check the inputs against the earthworks summary, importantly has boundary area and boundary perimeter which is useful for QS users who need to estimate construction thickness volumes).

A lot of the above items are small or have already been done.  I have been working on Vertical Exaggeration today in fact (see attached screenshot).  It is one of my favourite features new features.

After this we will be starting work on Version 5.0 (Kubla Cubed 2018) which will have a redesign of sorts.  The biggest visual change will be the addition of a new "Measures" panel which allows a selection of measuring tools.

  1. Cut & Fill regions (report the cut\fill in different regions of the site on a single phase)
  2. Measuring Tools (Counts, Lengths, Areas, Cross Sections)
  3. The site plans in the main window so you can moving to site plans with reference to each other.
  4. The surface in the main window so you can align things together.
  5. Edit -> Copy\Paste in the menu.
  6. Improvements to creation of elements (especially the linear path element which can be awkward to use effectively)
This is currently the plan but it might change.  We want to include as many features as users have requested but not bite of more than we can chew.

Very impressive set of features, Ted. I'm looking forward to it! Hope all goes as planned development wise.

Hi Tim

we have had a few delays on the 4.6 release, although we are making good progress now.  The revised deadline is the 29th of April.

We have finished almost all the graphical upgrades LandXML import and are now working on completing the export upgrades and LandXML export.  I think for you being a QS, the spreadsheet output will hopefully save you some time over digging though the tables in the Word report.  We are also going to output the "User Input Data" elevation, cut\fill, batter etc... and also including boundary area\perimeters.  These are different from the earthworks footprint areas you get in the earthworks report and will be most useful if you have used strips to adjust for construction thickness but then don't have an area of the strips as they are merged into one earthworks cluster.  I imagine you do this in BluBeam so it isn't a problem but you might find it useful for printing out and checking all your inputs.

I have attached a screenshot of the new vertical exaggeration in the program and also a new upgrade which renders a "skirt" around the TINS.  This gives the visualisations a lot more of a solid feel and helps clients visualise the colour key better as you can see the colour bands running down the side.

4.6 is going to be more like a Kubla Cubed 2017 Plus rather than a minor upgrade so has taken a bit longer than the other updates.

Very nice, certainly worth waiting for [Image: thumbsup.png]

Hi Ted,

Is it possible to include a command that maximizes the graphics screen by temporarily hiding dockable panels, tool bars, status bars and the menu bars in the upcoming release 4.6. A short cut such as : Ctrl-0 to activate this function would be ideal. Most of the time I have to do a presentation of 3D kubla model to our project team and a full graphic screen without those menu bars, dockable panels...etc.. would make the presentation perfect and everyone will have a full view of the 3D model. Hopefully this can be included.

Thanks and Regards,
Bernard.

Hi Bernard

Good suggestions.  We have added that today Ctrl + F (Full Screen) it hides the side panel and the vertical exaggeration toolbar.  The stats panel and colour keys will stay although you can turn off all stats entries if you want in the options menu.

Thanks

Ted

Hi Tim

Nice to know someones paying attention.  Yes we have got into slight development hell with the V4.6 and ended up trying to do too much again.  We haven't quite mastered the under promise and over deliver thing.

However we are down to the last few tasks.

LandXML import and export [DONE]
Generation of labelled Gridded Points in CAD [DONE]
Vertical Exaggeration [DONE]
Significant performance improvements especially with multiple phase projects [DONE]
Contour labelling for generated contours [DONE]
An export report of "User Input Data [DONE]
Export to Spreadsheet as well as PDF\Word. [70% Complete]

There is some really nice work gone into this one.   I can't wait to release it.

I am hoping we get it out at the beginning of next week.  I have included some screenshots as a teaser.
