  Region naming
Posted by: Marcus - 10-10-2020, 01:08 PM - Replies (3)

I am in the process of calculating cut and fill and the client wishes for a breakdown of volumes to specific areas of the site.

I have used the Measurement panel to create Volume Regions. When I then create a Report for the Earthworks Estimation, Kubla splits the cut and fill volumes as required. I have renamed the regions, e.g. Road A, Road B in the Measurement panel so they are more meaningful. However, in the report the renaming is not applied, they still appear as Region 1, 2, 3 etc. Is this an oversight or something I am doing wrong? I would like the renaming to appear in the spreadsheet which Kubla produces.

Hope this makes sense. Thank you.

  LandXML Surface Boundary Being Ignored
Posted by: LGEO_2020 - 09-21-2020, 07:42 PM - Replies (1)

Hey all, I am importing a triangle surface in XML formal which was created in Civil 3D 2018. When imported into Kubla Cubed the boundary is ignored and there is cut/fill applied where it shouldn't be. I have tried creating a cropped surface and exporting that as a LandXML - that worked for my Existing Ground surface, but not the Future ground surface and I have no idea why. Any ideas?

Hi. Can you overlay two drawings. Eg a survey and a finished site plan. And if they are different scales can you make them the same scale so the overlay exactly. And can you do this on the free version please. Looks amazing by the way. Can’t wait to download it. But waiting for a new laptop.

  Strip Area Volume
Posted by: Chi_W - 05-20-2020, 04:20 PM - Replies (1)

I have used many other takeoff programs in the past. It is common that once an area with a specified subgrade depth is created, the cut/fill of the area will be shown automatically in the report.
It is similar to use the Strip method to create the region in this program; however, the volume cannot be shown in the report. A volume region will need to be created in order to compute the volume. This program tries to be precise not to have any region or boundary overlapping while other programs do not have this restriction which may generate a slightly different overall result when adding the areas together. This small margin of error is acceptable in terms of earthworks estimation.

I have done two projects with this program, one has only 3 Strip regions and other has more than 20. The simple one I could fix the region error easily; but the complex one took me a lot of time to fix these errors even though all the lines are snapped together. I have ended up removing one Strip region.

Creating the volume region is also a challenge as mentioned in other Forum.

Please advise.

  Volume Region
Posted by: Chi_W - 05-19-2020, 08:59 PM - Replies (1)

I have just purchased the 2019 version and successfully created the surfaces. Often time, we need to know the cut and fill for many regions in a project because they all have different production.
However, I have problem creating volume regions. I created the first volume region with no problem. However, when I start adding new region beside the region, I always get an error "validation of breakdown fail" or something like intersection end. I tried snapping to the adjacent region or leaving a gap between the boundary, the same error show up. I was successful last week that a second region was created without touching the boundary of the adjacent region; however, when I open up the project again today, the validation error was displayed. I have spent hours trying to figure this out but with no success. Please provide your advise, thank you.

  Squaring outlines of platform
Posted by: h-earthworks - 05-10-2020, 10:30 PM - Replies (2)

Is there a way to layout a square or define the angle of a corner point for platforms and slopes?  My job is a 6 acre sloping pad. The only info to go on is end and side lengths with instructions to have pad square with the property line.  Hard to draw exact edge lengths and get perfect rectangle by just drawing on the screen.  Sure its a simple solution that im missing.  Wes

  Rotation and Location of Grid
Posted by: Inxpot1 - 05-08-2020, 09:49 AM - Replies (2)

Currently it appears the only way to have a grid is with direct north/south coordinate lines.  This grid is utilized when exporting cut fill information to Autocad as a dwg file.  Frequently in autocad we use a user coordinate system, and when we do the grid information is not aligned with the user coordinate system due to its operation being hard coded to the actual coordinates.

It'd be useful if we could pick a user coordinate 0,0 and a user rotation for north / south, so that the cut/fill information on the grid drops in at a text rotation and at locations that is coordinated with our user coordinates in Autocad.  I can make all sorts of adjustments once it's exported, but I'd rather not have to do so.

Further, it'd be useful to be able to control the rotation and size of the fonts for the cut/fill information, and to have different layers for the cut, fill and no cut/no fill information so that they can be turned off and on without having to change them after export.  I'd also like to see the grid lines, cut/fill hatches and other lines be controllable with their own layers.

Doable?

Failed to open file:Could not load dxf.
Posted by: Jim_M - 04-29-2020, 02:04 AM - Replies (1)

Hey all, first time user here.  When I try to import contours from a dxf file, I get the following error: "Failed to open file:Could not load dxf". I've tried dxfs formatted for various versions of AutoCAD.  I get the same error each time.

If it helps come up with ideas, I'm also unable to paste contours directly into Kubla Cubed from AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.
