I have just completed a complex 19 phase cut & fill project in Kubla Cubed with a site area of 275,000m2 and thought I'd share my observations regarding the workstream.
The reason for so many phases is that there is a culvert running through the middle of the site and no surplus materials are to be taken off-site. Therefore a balanced materials movement was required. This equates to 184,000m3 of materials movement.
The final Kubla Cubed file size is 31Mb
The Client issued information was, as usual, not the best with existing topographical survey information buried as a group within the proposed site layout DWG files.
Methodology:- EXISTING TOPOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
In Autodesk Civils 3D
1. Purge the dwg.
2. Delete all layers to leave the site outline and the grouped existing survey point data.
3. BURST the remaining information so that all elements can be selected and reviewed independently.
4. Check that the existing survey points/contours contain XYZ information. (Luckily they did).
6. The file was ready for import into Kubla Cubed.
PROPOSED TOPOGRAPHY
5.Next was to create new layers and assign different distinct colors to the contours in order to import just the relevant information by phase into Kubla Cubed. (Contour Image attached which was further broken down to each phase)
a. By doing this I was not importing the complete site proposed topo for all the phases, thereby reducing the file size.
6. With the topo contours now having distinct colours it was easier to import into their relevant phases These were imported as Feature Surface, break lines and Outlines (Image shows all phases combined)
Note:-Very few projects that we receive with DWG topo contour information have the contours "smoothed" and this leads to jagged contours and some falling back on themselves. Importing as Break Lines created better results.
I'm new to Kubla Cubed but very experienced with other construction software including on screen digital measurement programs.
I can import a drawing, set the scale by either measure of a known length or inputting the figures. I am also able to align the drawing. When going in to the feature surface tool and attempting to set the site boundary I'm unable to do so as the cursor doesn't draw anything. I am choosing manual / interpolate and the pen symbol. What's going wrong?

Please can you produce some up to date tutorial and 'walk through' videos to supersede the ones currently on Youtube as they are out of date and some are difficult to follow

I recently have went back to make adjustments and have accidently canceled some work and have not been able to return to the previous work. Is it lost for good? is there a way to return to the previous state?

I am super new to this kind of software and Im having a problem that seems super basic but Im not sure how to fix it. I uploaded a pdf and I was just hoping to find some areas, but my measurement tool + key is grey and wont let me click on it. Just trying to troubleshoot because Im not sure what to change so that it will allow me to use the measurement tool. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hoping someone has a simple solution to this - every time I try and use a DWG file to generate contours I get an error message 'File does not contain any surfaces'. The data is 3D so not sure what the issue is?
I have just downloaded the software a reviewed the tutorials and am starting to doubt if Kubla can do what i had hoped.
I would like to load a PDF of a construction site and manually input the existing point levels and contours and then the finished levels. I have no data sets or CAD to import.
The examples all seem to be based on uploading drawings that already have information on them that the software can read.
When i have tried to put levels in i am told i need to set the boundary.
When i do this i have to manually enter some levels, however after i have done that i am not able to put spot level in.
Can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction for a turorial
